Thai Cabinet to hold special meeting on late Princess's funeral

BANGKOK, July 29 (TNA) - The Thai Cabinet will hold a special meeting next Monday to work out preparations for a royal funeral of late Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana, the only daughter of the country's late King Rama VI and Queen Suvadhana who passed away on July 27 at the age of 85.
Caretaker prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva told reporters that only the official arrangements of the late Princess's royal funeral and related issues will be on the agenda of his outgoing Cabinet's August 1 special meeting.
Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana passed away peacefully at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok. Dr. Teerawat Kulthanan, Dean of Siriraj Hospital's Faculty of Medicine, officially reported that the late Princess was admitted to the Siriraj Hospital on July 13 before she succumbed to blood infection on Wednesday.
Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit presided over a royal bathing rite and other Buddhist religious ceremonies for the late Princess at the Piman Rathaya Throne Hall inside the Grand Palace Thursday evening, during which other members of the Royal Family attended.
His Majesty the King has also instructed all members of the Royal Thai Family and palace staff members to observe a 100-day mourning for the late Princess; while premier Abhisit has ordered all government and state agencies, as well as educational institutes across the country to fly the national flag at half-mast for 15 days, starting from Friday, and all government and state enterprises' officials and staff to dress in black during the 15-day official mourning period.
The late Princess had devoted her time to Thailand's educational, social welfare, public health and charity projects, several of which were initiated by her Father and Grandmother, including offering the royal patronage to several schools and the Thai Red Cross Society.
A large number of people from all walks of life crowded the Grand Palace Thursday afternoon to pay their respects to the late Princess by pouring scented water in front of her portrait. According to His Majesty the King's wish, the late Princess's royal urn will be installed at the Dusit Throne Hall inside the Grand Palace as the highest honour offered to her. (TNA)
