CREW MEMBERS ARE SAFE, SAYS MISC

MACHANG (Malaysia), Sept 16 (Bernama) -- A relative of one of MT Bunga Melati Dua crew members said Tuesday the Malaysia International Shipping Corporation (MISC) had assured them that the crewmen of the hijacked tanker were safe and in good health.

Wan Hassan Wan Nawang said the MISC had confirmed that his step-brother,
Salwadi Mamat, was safe on the ship.

"The family is relieved to hear the assurance by an MISC staff who was
contacted two days ago," he said when met at his home here.

MT Bunga Melati Dua, with 39 crew members including 29 Malaysians, was
captured by pirates at the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Somalia on Aug
19.

Wan Hassan said he hoped that the family could be updated on the matter
from
time to time.

Pirates had also hijacked another MISC vessel, MT Bunga Melati 5, with 41
crew members including 36 Malaysians, in the area on Aug 29.
