India extends help to family of Andhra student killed in U.S.
Washington, Sept 16 (PTI) India has said it will provide
assistance to the family of a student from Andhra Pradesh, who
was killed in Chicago and extend all possible help to expedite
her remains to the native country.
"The Embassy of India is aware of the tragic situation
and the Consulate General of India in Chicago has been
instructed to extend all possible assistance to expedite the
remains of Sowmya to India," a senior official of the Indian
embassy told PTI.
"We are in touch with the sister of the diseased, the
university and law enforcement officials," the official said.
The body of Soumya Reddy (23), a post-graduation student
at Southern Illinois university, was found in a car in
Missouri with gunshot wounds on Saturday, making it the fourth
such incident when a student from the state was killed in the
U.S. in last ten months.
