Thai Appeal Court upholds ruling on a separatist case

BANGKOK, July 27 (TNA) - The Court of Appeal has upheld a life imprisonment sentence for southern Thai separatist “Rosabee Mayama”.

The ruling was announced Wednesday at the Bangkok Criminal Court for Rosabee who was found guilty on charges of inciting separatist threats and militancy, arms gathering, physical assault, robbery and possession of stolen property.

The convicted was identified as a member of a separatist movement "Barasi Revolusi Nasional" or BRN Coordinate. The group had been liable for insurgency and related crimes, as well as the provocation of separatist ideals among Thai Muslims, in three southern border provinces of Thailand.

On December 15, 2009, the Court of First Instance sentenced Rosabee to death but commuted the sentence to life imprisonment for the benefit confession. (TNA)
