OIC appreciates solution to violence in Thai South, says Thai FM
YALA, July 27 (TNA) - Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya said the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) had appreciated the Thai government’s solution for resolving violence in the country’s southern region.
Speaking at the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center in Yala province on Wednesday, Kasit reported government progress in the implementation of policies to curb violence in five southern Thai provinces in June.
He explained that the Thai government had been sending representatives to the OIC secretariat in Jeddah to clarify the policies to the international Muslim community.
The caretaker foreign minister admitted the OIC was concerned about the rights of Thai Muslims, but said he had informed the organization of the liberty enjoyed by Thai Muslims in the country, as seen from their high voter turnout in the previous July 3 election. (TNA)
