Japan further assist human resource development in Laos
Vientiane,july 26.(KPL)- Twenty Lao students have won Japan Human Resource Development Scholarship fellows (JDS) to study a master in universities across in Japan.
A sent-off reception for them was held at the Japanese Resident on Monday, attended by Japanese Ambassador to the Lao PDR, Mrs. Junko Yokota, President of Lao-Japan Friendship Association, Dr. Ponmek Daraloy and high-ranking officials from both sides.
All of the 20 students will departure by the end of August this year and will enroll in two-year master’s courses.
The fields of study are all development-related subjects, including public finance, public administration and governance, engineering, agriculture, law, investment promotion and education development.
They will study at the International University of Japan, Meiji University, Ritsumeikan University, Kyushu University, Nagoya University, Hiroshima University and Osaka University respectively.
At the reception, Mrs. Yokata made a speech for the fellows, stressing the importance of their studies in Japan and encouraging them to make valuable contributions to national development of the Laos.
She also expressed her hopes that the fellows will play bridging roles between Laos and Japan in the future.
On behalf of 20 students, Technical official of the Civil Service Management Division of the Public Administration and Civil Service Authority, Mr. Nanthaphon Lyvathana, who will study capacity development in administrative institutions at Meiji University, expressed his resolution that he will commit to his study and do his utmost for academic achievement.
“We strongly believe that studying and researching in Japan will be the best opportunity for us to strengthen the friendship and relationship between the Laos and Japan as well as to promote the mutual understanding between people of both countries through the education and agriculture exchange,” Mr. Nanthaphon said.
He expressed his sincere gratitude to the people and the government of Japan for having provided continuous opportunities and scholarship for development in various sectors, to us for improving our skills and knowledge for our further required and further performance.
“I hope that the government of Japan will continue to provide funding for personnel development and other aspects of development of various organisations both of public and private,” Mr. Nanthaphon said.
The Japanese Grant Assistance for Human Resource Development Scholarship started in 2000. So far 255 fellows have been awarded with scholarships to study at universities across Japan, among which 195 have already retuned to Laos.
