FAREWELL TO MARTYRS
Funerals took place for two non-commissioned officers who were killed in an ambush by terrorists in southeastern province of Mardin and one lieutenant who died at GATA military hospital after being wounded in a clash. Funerals were held for non-commissioned officers Erhan Gul and Sadik Gullu who were killed by PKK terrorists in Mardin and lieutenant Suleyman Ozoglu who died at GATA after wounded in clash in Semdinli town of Hakkari. 

EARTHQUAKE IN MARMARA
A magnitude-5.2 earthquake took place in Marmara Sea at 8.57 p.m. on Monday. The quake was felt in Istanbul and northwestern provinces of Edirne and Kirklareli.

SUPER LEAGUE TO KICK OFF ON SEPTEMBER 9
Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President Mehmet Ali Aydinlar said that Spor Toto Super League 2011-2012 season would begin on September 9, as Bank Asya First League would kick off on September 10. With such decision, the federation provided the ethical council examining the match-fixing allegations with extra time.

SAMAST SENTENCED TO 22 YEARS, TO BE RELEASED AFTER 10 YEARS
The case regarding the murder of journalist Hrant Dink has been finalized. A juvenile court in Istanbul sentenced suspect Ogun Samast to 22 years 10 months in prison. Samast had a reduction in his sentence as he had been a minor at the time of the crime. Samast, who will serve two-thirds of the sentence, will stay 10 years 8 months in prison taking into consideration the 4 years he has spent in jail so far.

BDP ESCALATES TENSION
When terrorist organization PKK increases its attacks, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) is using politics as a tool of provocation. BDP which declared 'democratic autonomy' on the day when 13 Turkish soldiers were killed in an attack by terrorists in Silvan, continued its statements escalating tension. 75 percent of Kurds who did not support 'democratic autonomy' have been facing threats. 

CENTRAL BANK INTERVENES 
The Turkish Central Bank halted its daily foreign exchange buying auctions after U.S. dollar and euro hit record highs against the Turkish lira. U.S. dollar traded at 1.726 TL on Monday morning and euro hit an all-time record, trading at 2.484 TL. The bank also said it reduced required reserve ratios for foreign-exchange deposits with maturities of one-year and longer.
