SAMAST TO BE RELEASED 10 YEARS LATER
Ogun Samast, the gunman in the murder of Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, was sentenced to 22 years 10 months on charges of "premeditated murder" and "possession of an unregistered weapon". According to the court ruling, Samast will be released from prison 10 years later. Dink, the editor-in-chief of the bilingual Turkish-Armenian weekly Agos, was shot dead outside the newspaper's offices in Istanbul's Sisli neighborhood on January 19, 2007.

FAREWELL TO THREE MARTYRS
Funerals took place for three Turkish soldiers who were martyred in an attack in southeastern province of Mardin. Funerals took place Monday for command sergeant major Sadik Gullu (39), sergeant major Erhan Gul (37) who died in the attack and lieutenant Suleyman Ozoglu (25) who was wounded in the clash and died at GATA hospital.

Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink's murderer Ogun Samast, who was a minor when he pulled the trigger, has been sentenced to 22 years 10 months in prison on charges of "premeditated murder" and "possession of an unregistered weapon". In line with the ruling of a juvenile court, Samast, 23, who was the gunman in one of the darkest murders in Turkey's history, will stay in prison for 14 years and 8 months. As he has been a prisoner for the last 4 years, Samast will be released from jail after serving for 10 years, at the age of 33.

GIZEM WAS TO BE A POLITICIAN
The 17-year-old Turkish girl Gizem Dogan was lost at the massacre island in Norway, but her family said they would not believe Gizem was dead until an official statement was made. Gizem, the eldest child in her family, was known as a young and promising politician. Last year, she had drawn attraction at the Norwegian parliament with her speech on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

CENTRAL BANK'S INTERVENTION SUSPENDS INCREASE OF USD
Developments in Europe and the United States also affected Turkish markets. One USD climbed to 1.73 Turkish lira (TL) in the free market after markets opened on Monday. Later it dropped to 1.709 against TL after Turkish Central Bank halted its daily foreign exchange buying auctions. USD traded at 1.726 TL on Monday morning and euro hit an all-time record, trading at 2.484 TL. Central Bank said it reduced required reserve ratios for foreign-exchange deposits with maturities of one-year and longer.
