LEADERSHIP TRANSITION DATE REMAINS, SAYS PM

KUALA TERENGGANU (Malaysia), Sept 16 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi says the date for the leadership transition between him and his deputy Najib Razak remains as agreed -- in 2010.

The prime minister said at the moment, there was no change to the date and
that there was no new decision made on the timeframe.

"At the moment, there is no (new decision). The 2010 timeframe stays
because
that is the date we have officially decided on," he told reporters after
attending the breaking of fast and performing the prayers at the Abidin
Mosque here Monday night.

Abdullah also performed the Isyak and Tarawih prayers.

Asked whether the leadership transition was discussed during his meeting
with Najib Monday, Abdullah said they touched on the matter but did not make any
change.

"We discussed about a lot of things which are happening now. We talked
about
issues, including the (leadership transition) plan," he said.

On Wednesday Umno Vice-President Muhyiddin Yassin said the prime
minister should rethink the transition plan as the timeframe was too long.

Muhyiddin claimed that the plan had "sunk away" and the people were not
thinking about it anymore.
