ASEAN Secretary gives Post Briefing on recent ASEAN Ministerial Meetings
BANGKOK, July 25 (TNA) - ASEAN Secretary-General, Dr Surin Pitsuwan on Monday led a video conference session on outcomes of the recent ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and related meetings amid various stakeholders in the participating members of ASEAN.
The two-hour briefing covered outcomes of the three ASEAN meetings, namely the 44th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM), the Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) as well as the 18th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), which took place during 16 to 23 July 2011 in Bali, Indonesia. The event was attended by over 300 participants based in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
During the briefing, ASEAN Secretary General raised profile of ASEAN’s achievements during the past year as well as future directions of ASEAN, in line with the provision of ASEAN Charter. Topics of talks range from finance, energy, disaster management, human rights, education and youth developments to issues such as the South China Sea, nuclear talks between North and South Korea and ASEAN’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup.
The briefing was made possible through the use of videoconferencing technology/facilities supported by the World Bank and the Global Development Learning Network, with the Secretary General’s remarks delivered from Indonesia. (TNA)
