Tension relieved at the Thai-Cambodian border
BANGKOK, July 24 (TNA) - Tourists flocked to visit the Ta Muen Thom Temple in Surin province this weekend as tension at Thai-Cambodian border started to relieve.
Situations along the Thai-Cambodian border in Surin province remained normal Sunday although Thailand and Cambodia had not pulled out their troops of the demilitarized zone, as ordered by The Hague-based International Court of Justice recently.
Nevertheless, reduced border tension had prompted local people and tourists to visit the Ta Muen Thom Temple in Ta Miang Subdistict and the Ta Kwai Temple in Bakdai Subdistirct.
One of the tourists was quoted as saying that he was glad to have visited the Ta Muen Thom temple and witness the way of living of Thai soldiers. He also praised the soldiers for facilitating his trip and keeping peace in the area saying that he felt safe and comfortable and that he hoped Thai and Cambodian soldiers would continue maintaining their good ties.
Meanwhile, good relations had been maintained among soldiers of both countries as unarmed Cambodian soldiers were seen crossing the border to visit their Thai counterparts and the temple.
Villagers living near the temple reportedly continued their day-to-day activities as normal. Most of them were confident that the border situations will gradually improve. (TNA)
