Sydney helicopter crash bodies recovered
SYDNEY (AAP) July 23 - The bodies of two men who were killed when their helicopter crashed during bad weather have been recovered from dense bushland on Sydney's north shore.
Businessman Bruce Campbell, a 65-year-old grandfather, and freelance pilot Colin Greenwood, 35, were killed in the accident on Friday morning.
The Bell 206 seven-seater aircraft, owned by Mr Campbell, hit the ground at the foot of a 15-metre high cliff in the Lane Cove National Park, at the western end of Canoon Road, in South Turramurra about 9.15am (AEST).
Police postponed a recovery operation until Saturday morning because of torrential rain and hazardous conditions.
After a team of forensic specialists spent a substantial period of time photographing the crash site on Saturday, police confirmed that both bodies have now been airlifted from the site.
The bodies were taken to the morgue for a post-mortem examination, a police spokeswoman said.
Witnesses had reported seeing something fly off the back of the aircraft shortly before it crashed.
The wreckage and bodies were guarded overnight by police and the site has been closed off.
