Bangkok rolls out more “reading zones” for World Book Capital 2013

BANGKOK, July 23 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will expand its "Read on the Move“ campaign to cover public buses serving passengers in the city, beginning from July 28, apart from its initial campaign focusing on the city's cabs, aimed at preparing the Thai capital to be a world book capital by 2013.
Under the expanding campaign, Bangkok Deputy Governor Taya Tipasuwan said, people in the city will be encouraged to read more books, as the Thai capital has been officially designated the host of the 2013 World Book Capital event by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Taya revealed that a total of 108 public buses on nine routes in Bangkok will then have reading corners for passengers on board, and that the participating buses will carry banners promoting more reading and the Bangkok: World Book Capital event.
The BMA deputy governor added that the BMA's Education Department will also open new school libraries in all the capital's 50 districts, along with plans to increase reading corners at public spaces, namely hospitals, government offices, prisons and charity houses, in order to promote more reading in the Thai society.
The Bangkok deputy governor also encouraged book donations from the public at district offices, shopping malls and convenient stores all across the Thai capital. (TNA)
