Dabur's Nepal unit to resume operation soon

Kathmandu, Sept 15 (PTI) The two-week-long strike at
Dabur Nepal, a subsidiary of Indian Ayurvedic giant Dabur, may
end soon with the Maoist affiliated workers agreeing to return
to work.

The 700-strong labours' lobby of the company had
locked up its main factory at Rampur village in Bara district
on September 2, demanding a 10 percent hike in bonus for the
workers.

The strike called by the All Nepal Trade Union
Federation (Revolutionary) has caused financial losses to the
company that manufactures cosmetics and herbal products and is
one of the largest tax payers of Nepal.

The Maoists-affiliated workers' union had alleged
that the company had manipulated its profit figures to provide
less bonus money.

The management of the company said that the
negotiations are still on with the workers on some "minor
issues" and the operation would resume soon after an agreement
was signed with the labour representatives.

"Negotiation is under way on the issue of 'no work no
pay' as we are of the position that the staff should not get
any payment for the strike period as they themselves had
locked up the factory," a senior member of management said.

The factory will resume operation in a day or two, he
added. PTI SBP
