Bangkok Administration confident in new Interior Minister

BANGKOK, July 23 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) says that it is confident to get along and work well with the new Thai government, led by the Pheu Thai Party, through the new Interior Minister.
BMA Deputy Governor Teerachon Manomaipibul insisted that everyone at the BMA will be able to work for the public benefit with any Thai government.
Teerachon noted that the BMA’s priority will now focus on two mass rail transit projects, including an 8.9 billion baht monorail plan stretching some 1.5 kilometres between Chulalongkorn University and Siam shopping area in the Thai capital and an 18 kilometre, 10 billion-baht “right rail” scheme linking Bangkok's Bangna area with the country's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Both plans have been pending the Thai Cabinet's approvals.
Meanwhile, the BMA deputy governor announced that an extended section of Bangkok's skytrain, also known as BTS, on the Sukhumvit line, between Onnuch and Baring areas, will be launched on August 12, 2011, as part of nationwide celebrations of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s birthday anniversary, with free rides to be specially offered on the day, also designated as the National Mothers' Day, to all mums across all stations.
The BMA deputy governor said that the extended Sukhumvit line will then kick off its commercial services on January 2, 2012, with its fares to be later announced. (TNA)
