Prachanda assures security to Indian investors in Nepal

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' Tuesday assured security to Indian investors but said the larger security issue in the region needs to be addressed collectively with India.

Asked how his government would address New Delhi's
concerns on links between Naxals in India and Maoists across
the border, Prachanda said, "We understand the security
concern of India and we are also very much concerned about our
own security. We would have to go ahead collectively."

The Nepalese Prime Minister was speaking at the luncheon
meeting of C.I.I., F.I.C.C.I. and Assocham during his maiden
visit to India after assuming office in August.

He said there was an atmosphere of peace in his country
which would be instrumental in creating the base of economic
growth in Nepal.

"The Government of Nepal remains committed to adopt every
possible measure to provide investors the necessary
securities. We will do all we can to ensure industrial
security in Nepal and also fair collaborative relationship
between labour and industry," Prachanda said.

With Maoists leading the coalition government, the Indian
industry, which has made investments in Nepal, remains
concerned over security to their investment and labour unrest.

Among those affected included Dabur's facility in Nepal
where the powerful trade union of the ruling Maoist party had
struck work.

Though the group "remains committed to Nepal," Dabur
India CEO Sameer Duggal raised his concern in his meeting with
Prachanda here last night.

Asked to comment on havoc of floods in Bihar caused by
the Kosi river emerging from Nepal, Prachanda restricted his
reply, saying, "the immediate focus has to be on relief and
reconstruction." MORE PTI YAS
