"Yingluck" leads Puea Thai MPs to report for duty

BANGKOK, July 22 (TNA) - The Pheu Thai Party's top-list elected MP and would-be first female Thai prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, led other Pheu Thai elected MPs to report for duty at the Secretariat of the Thai House of Representatives on Friday afternoon, after the Election Commission (EC) endorsed their MP status.
Yingluck and the other Pheu Thai MPs, including the party's leader Yongyuth Wichaidit, were welcomed by officials of the Thai House Secretariat and their supporters.
Friday is the ninth day of elected MPs’ arrival at the Thai Parliament building to report for duty. So far, 357 out of 402 MPs whose status has been endorsed by the EC have reported for duty. Among those MPs having been endorsed by the Thai election agency include four leading red-shirt Pheu Thai members, Weng Tojirakarn, Korkaew Pikulthong, Wiphuthalaeng Patthanaphoomthai and Wichean Khaokham, whose elected status was certified by the EC on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Chung Hae-Moon, South Korea Ambassador in Bangkok, wished Thailand to resume its leading stature in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) when he met Yingluck at the Pheu Thai Party's headquarters on Thursday to congratulate her on her party’s victory in Thailand's latest general election early this month. The South Korean top envoy also expressed his confidence that Yingluck would lead the way for national reconciliation.
Top envoys of Bangladesh and New Zealand also met Yingluck, who is the youngest sister of exiled ex-Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra, in separate sessions on the same day for the same purpose. (TNA)
