Japan, Indonesia agree to boost strategic partnership+
NUSA DUA, Indonesia, July 21 Kyodo -
Japan and Indonesia agreed Thursday to further boost their strategic partnership through dialogues between their foreign and economic ministers, Japanese officials said.
Japanese Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto and his Indonesian counterpart Marty Natalegawa, who met in Bali, Indonesia, on the fringes of meetings related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, also agreed on the need to arrange bilateral economic ministerial talks at an early date, they said.
The first high-level economic dialogue involving Japanese foreign, trade and transport ministers, and Indonesian trade, industry, energy and economic coordination ministers was held in Tokyo last October.
At that meeting, the two countries agreed to promote Japanese investment in Indonesian infrastructure projects, especially those in the Jakarta metropolitan area, and improve the Indonesian business environment.
Later in the day, Matsumoto held talks with his Philippine counterpart Albert del Rosario and expressed Tokyo's gratitude for support offered by the country after the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami, the officials said.
The Philippines has dispatched three doctors to Japan, mainly to provide mental health care to Filipino victims of the disaster in northeastern Japan.
Del Rosario commended quake survivors for being well disciplined and expressed appreciation for Tokyo's cooperation in helping Filipino nationals in Japan following the calamity, they said.
