SPO: Sports Cricket Pakistan, Sri Lanka for Twenty20 series in Toronto

Toronto, Sept 15 PPI: Canada will hold its first quadrangular Twenty20 cricket tournament featuring Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and hosts here from October 10 to 13.

The tournament, originally scheduled to start August 14, was postponed as
uncertainty prevailed over sponsorships.

Bangladesh and West Indies, earlier listed to participate, pulled out and replaced
by Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Bangladesh pulled out as new dates clashed with its home
series against New Zealand. West Indies sought postponement of quadrangular series
by two weeks.

With organisers not accommodating West Indies request and bringing in Zimbabwe as a
replacement, tournament will now be held at Maple Leaf ground here next month.

Nauman Nabi, chairman of Sports International Marketing who are organisers, said it
was not possible to delay tournament beyond schedule as Canadian winter weather will
not be conducive to playing cricket.

Twenty20 tournament will be another feather in cap of fledging Canadian cricket,
which is witnessing revival of sport. Last month, it held first-ever ODI series
involving West Indies, Bermuda and hosts.
