Thai FM urges Cambodia to return to negotiations

BANGKOK, July 21 (TNA) - Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya has urged Cambodia to return to negotiations, saying that both nations should equally be committed to troop withdrawal as specified by the International Court of Justice.
Kasit explained that the provisional demilitarized zone concerned land, maritime and airspace boundaries, on both sides of the border, meaning that both Thailand and Cambodia were liable to make equal compliance.
He also said that in principle the World Court order had overridden Thailand’s pre-condition for Cambodia to first pull troops in the disputed area near the Preah Vihear temple prior to the arrival of Indonesian observers. The Thai foreign minister noted that effects from the Court decision were also beyond the authority of the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC).
Meanwhile, the Thai foreign minister urged Cambodia to stop criticising the Thai government through media, saying that the Thai government always adhered to peaceful solutions. (TNA)
