Army chief rules out human error in Thai helicopter crash

PETCHABURI, July 21 (TNA) - Thailand’s Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha says that the latest helicopter crash in the Kaeng Krachan National Park in Petchaburi province was a result of uncontrollable factors, not of human error from officials on board.

In an updated report on Thursday morning, Gen Prayuth said that a military rescue team was still trying to locate the ill-fated Blackhawk that crashed near the Thai-Myanmar border on Wednesday.

Gen Prayuth insisted the incident, being the second helicopter crash, was caused by turbulent weather, and was normally unexpected for a high-performing Blackhawk.

He noted there was still hope in the search operation, in which Myanmar authorities had given cooperation for access into its territory.

Meanwhile, the Army chief promised full assistance for families of the first five Army soldiers killed in the previous Heuy helicopter crash. He said the Army would offer them financial support, jobs, and educational scholarships, while the deceased officers would be given the highest honour. (TNA)
