OIC Chief meets ASEAN Secretary General

Jeddah, September 15, SPA -- The Secretary General of the
Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Prof. Ekmeleddin
Ihsanoglu has received Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary General of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and his accompanying
delegation.

During the meeting held last Saturday, Pitsuwan briefed the OIC
Secretary General on major areas of ASEAN activities and expressed
the hope that the two Organizations would work on ways and means of
exploring areas of common interest.

On his part, the OIC Secretary General welcomed close relations and
fruitful cooperation between the OIC and other international and
regional organizations and groupings. He briefed Pitsuwan on the OIC
activities and its new vision and mission.

They also exchanged views on means of institutionalizing
relationship between the two Organizations.
