Rugby player's organs to be donated
The parents of a young rugby player who died after being knocked unconscious in a tackle say they will donate his organs.
University of Queensland (UQ) player Halley Appleby, 21, died on Monday morning after he was knocked unconscious in a game on the weekend.
Gary and Sue Appleby said they decided to honour their son's life by donating his organs to five people in need.
Mrs Appleby was moved when told Wallabies players would wear black armbands in their Sydney match against the Springboks on Saturday.
"That's amazing because that's where he (Halley) wanted to be," she told the Nine Network.
Mr Appleby said he felt helpless watching from the sidelines as his son was fatally injured just five minutes after taking the field.
It was a heartbreaking experience to stand back and watch his son struggle and not be able to do anything, he said.
Mrs Appleby said her son was the light of her life and his loss was the most heartbreaking thing for a mother to experience.
