Can Tho proves to effectively use foreign aid

Can Tho (VNA) - The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho proved to effectively utilise foreign capital grants, fulfilling 73 projects to bring various benefits to the local people.

Part of the total 1.3 million USD, donated by 53 foreign non-government organisations and six individuals, was used to purchase medical equipment for tens of commune-level infirmaries, and build 153 safe water supply stations and more than 600 toilets.

The projects provided loans to help nearly 10,000 poor farmers to attend
vocational training courses and funded free eye operations on 3,000 patients
and medical treatment for 4,000 others.

The city also doled out allowances for over 400 elderly people and orphans
and enabled 15,000 local women to get access to productive health, family
planning and HIV/AIDS prevention services.

Since the beginning of the year, the projects have helped around 8,000 local
people find jobs, 4,000 households get rid of poverty and 3,000 children
have a chance to go to school.-Enditem
