Illegal immigrants arrested near Thai-Myanmar border

BANGKOK, July 18 (TNA) - At least 44 Myanmar nationals have been arrested at Thai seas on charges of illegal entry into the Kingdom.

Thai naval officials on the HTMS Hua Hin confirmed the arrest on Monday, which found 30 men, 12 women and two children.

Preliminary reports stated the Myanmar nationals were travelling on a long-tailed boat from Kawthaung area of Myanmar, before they were intercepted near Koh Chang island of Thailand’s Ranong province.

A Myanmar boatman confessed he was paid 5,000 baht to carry the illegal migrants to a fish pier in Khura Buri district of Thailand’s Phangnga province, from which a Thai trafficker would take them for work in Phuket province. (TNA)
