Situation along Thai-Cambodian border remains calm

CHANTHABURI, July 18 (TNA) - Border trade between Thailand and Cambodia has remained active in Chanthaburi province, while locals await the International Court of Justice’s ruling on the Preah Vihear Temple case.

With no military reinforcement in sight, Cambodian people still crossed the border on Monday to the Thai side for work and trade as usual.

But local people admitted the World Court’s expected ruling had already prompted concerns over a possible impact on bilateral relations, border trade and Cambodian labourers who cross the border to work in Thailand.

The Thai-Cambodian border trade and tourism association in Chanthaburi stated that it would approach Cambodian authorities to create understanding and restore bilateral relations if any problem arose.

Meanwhile, Thai Public Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr Paijit Warachit has ordered Thai hospitals in Si Sa Ket, Surin and Ubon Ratchathani provinces to reserve at least 30 bags of extra blood supply as well as medicines, to cope with possible untoward incidents. (TNA)
