Soldiers’ bodies retrieved from helicopter crash site

PHETCHABURI, July 18 (TNA) - The bodies of five soldiers killed in a helicopter crash in the Kaeng Kra-chan National Park in Thailand’s Phetchaburi province have been recovered after a team of rangers reached the crash site on foot Sunday night.
Rangers of the Kaeng Kra-chan National Park walked to the crash site in the middle of the park to recover the five charred bodies as turbulent weather prevented the rescue helicopter from landing at the site. The bodies were wrapped with rubber sheets and carried out of the location.
Identification of the bodies was impossible as they were chaired beyond recognition. Their remains will be loaded onto a helicopter heading for the Surasee Task Force in Kanchanaburi province.
The crash victims were believed flight engineers Sergeant Major Rangsan Cholsaibua and Sergeant Major Narongdet Pongnoomkul, pilot Major Kiattisak Chineiam, copilot lieutenant Pratya Nualsri, and Major Kittiphum Ekkaphan, a planning officer from the Surasee Task Force’s the Thap Phraya Sua Camp.
The helicopter crash occurred when the five ill-fated officers were on their way to rescue 19 soldiers who were stranded in the Kaeng Kra-chan National Park on Saturday after they had brought media crews to cover the forest encroachment and illegal logging at the national park last Friday. (TNA)
