S. Korean IT firms expect continued slump in October: survey
SEOUL, Sept. 15 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's information technology (IT) companies forecast that business will stay bleak in October, mostly due to a global economic slowdown and weak domestic demand, a survey showed Monday.
According to the survey conducted by the Korea Association of Information and Telecommunication, the IT business sentiment index (BSI) for next month stood at 89, below the benchmark 100 for the sixth consecutive month.
A reading below 100 means that companies anticipating business conditions to worsen outnumber those expecting an improvement. The survey was based on a poll of around 1,300 local IT firms.
The October figure is slightly higher compared with the previous month's 83. But
the monthly index has remained under the benchmark since April when it reached
102.
The gloomy outlook was attributed to downside risks such as spreading concerns
over a global economic slowdown, increasing trade deficit, sky-high inflation and
slumping domestic demand.
