German court postpones ruling on seized Thai plane

BANGKOK, July 16 (TNA) - The German court has postponed its ruling on the impounding of a Thai plane to July 18 after a company opposed its release.

Outgoing Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva told reporters on Saturday the case with which the Thai plane was grounded in Munich airport by liquidators of the German-based Walter Bau.

The company, also a shareholder of Thailand’s Don Muang Toll way, claimed the seizure was related to a lawsuit filed against the Thaksin government, to demand compensation for its alleged violation of contractual terms regarding toll way fares.

Abhisit insisted that the seizure was inappropriate and unnecessary, saying that Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya was also lobbying for the plane’s release. He added that the German government had already apologized for the seizure and promised to facilitate efforts from the Thai side.

The Thai premier assured however, the incident would not affect Thai-German relations, although vowing to take legal action against Walter Bau. (TNA)
