Four hikers killed in car crash

SACHEON, South Korea, July 16 (Yonhap) -- A drowsy driver slammed his car into a group of hikers walking along a narrow road in southern South Korea on Saturday, killing four of them and injuring four others, police said.
The driver, identified as a 32-year-old teacher, told investigators that he was half-asleep when his K5 sedan crashed into the hikers trekking on one side of a seaside road in the southern coastal city of Sacheon, about 300 kilometers south of Seoul, around 1 p.m., they said.
Four of the hikers died at the scene, while four others were taken to two nearby hospitals with injuries, police said. It was unclear how serious those injuries were.
The victims were members of a hiking club based in Gyeonggi Province near Seoul, police said.
