“Yingluck” and “Abhisit” to be summoned for electoral fraud

BANGKOK, July 15 (TNA) - The Election Commission of Thailand (EC) has yet to summon the top list MP elects Yingluck Shinawatra and Abhisit Vejjajiva over electoral fraud allegations that have delayed their MP status.
Yingluck, the No.1 Pheu Thai Party candidate and prime minister-elect, told reporters today she had not been contacted by the election agency but was ready for an inquiry.
Yingluck also denied a report that her elder sister Yaowapa Wongsawat and her brother-in-law Somchai Wongsawat had violated the election law by helping her campaign for votes during the July 3 election.
Meanwhile, Abhisit Vejjajiva, acting leader of the Democrat Party, said he believed that the EC would eventually confirm the MP status for at least 95 per cent of the total 500 MPs to pave way for a new House session within 30 days of the election.
Abhisit said that he would like to see the new government take office before August 11.
When speaking over fraud allegations, the outgoing Thai prime minister urged the election agency exercise transparency, and called on all parties to avoid influencing its authority. (TNA)
