Seoul designer to stage hanbok fashion show on Dokdo

SEOUL, July 15 (Yonhap) -- A renowned South Korean designer of traditional hanbok costumes plans to hold a fashion show on the country's easternmost islets of Dokdo next month on the occasion of the country's National Liberation Day, an official from her company said Friday.
"Designer Lee Young-hee is pushing to stage a hanbok fashion show on our land Dokdo, aiming to display our traditional clothing to the world right on our territory," said Lee An-na, an official of the Maison de Lee Young-hee. "It will be the first fashion show to be held on the islets."

The hanbok, Korea's traditional dress, is praised for its rich and vibrant colors and is worn during the most important traditional holidays such as the Lunar New Year and Chuseok.
The move came after South Korea on Thursday expressed "strong regret and disappointment" over Japanese government officials' boycott of Korean Air after the airline made a special flight last month above the Dokdo islets.
Japan's foreign ministry has instructed its officials to refrain from taking Korean Air flights for one month from Monday in protest of the airline's flight by its first Airbus A380 over Dokdo in June.
Under the fashion designer's envisioned plan, she will present a diverse array of traditional costumes, including the royal attire of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).
The event is scheduled to be held around Aug. 9, according to the official. The Liberation Day marking Korea's independence from Japan's 1910-45 colonial rule falls on Aug. 15.
"The detailed schedule will be confirmed by the end of this month after taking into account some variables such as unexpected weather conditions there."
