BANGKOK, July 14 (TNA) - Outgoing Thai caretaker prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Thursday morning visited student representatives, including five Thais, who are participating in the 42nd International Physics Olympiad (IPho) 2011, hosted by Thailand from July 10-18.
Abhisit met the 400 international student competitors from 84 countries across the world at Chulalongkorn University's sports stadium in Bangkok, the venue of the IPho 2011.
The outgoing Thai premier also gave his morale support to the five Thai students from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, Patumwan Demonstration School and Triam Udom Suksa School, who represent their motherland at the one-week IPho 2011.
Activities in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the occasion of the beloved Thai monarch's 84th birthday on December 5 this year were also organised as part of the IPho 2011--aimed to publicize the revered Thai monarch's talents in science internationally.
Final results of the IPho 2011 will be announced on July 17 when Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirinthorn will graciously preside over ceremonies to present the IPho 2011 awards to winners and to close the 42nd International Physics Olympiad.
Thailand has participated in the International Physics Olympiad since 1967, eight years after the IPho was incepted to develop international youths' intelligence. (TNA)
