Danish-funded project benefits highlanders
Lai Chau (VNA)- The northern mountainous province of Lai Chau is one of the six beneficiaries of an ADDA (Agricultural Development Denmark Asia)-funded community development project, which has greatly improved living conditions of ethnic minority groups over the past two years.
Lai Chau province Farmers Association President and project chief
executive Phan Thuy Nghia said the province has opened 54 training courses,
where farmers teach farmers on advanced farming skills, for over 1,600
people. As a result, many families have harvested between nine and 11 tonnes
of maize per ha on their own fields.
Such courses are expected to increase to 100 by 2010 to benefit 3,000
farmers, thus contributing to poverty reduction and making farmers get
better off.--Enditem
