Militants destroy three more govt. schools
Landikotal, July 13, 2011 (PPI): Unknown militants destroyed three more government primary schools in Bara sub-division of Khyber Agency late last night.
The government primary schools for boys were destroyed in the Aka Khel tribe area in Bara where the security forces have launched the military offensive for the last two years with consistent curfew imposed in different parts of Bara, which has its border in the east and north with the city of Peshawar.
Primary school Yara Jan village, primary school Ghulam Sher and primary school of Zar Mar Jan village were blown up with explosive material.
With these schools the total number of destroyed schools in the whole of Khyber Agency has reached to forty six. The militants usually blow up the government schools in late hours of night by keeping strong explosive material inside the schools’ compounds.
Mostly, schools in the two tehsils of Khyber Agency namely, Bara and Landikotal have been blown up which have suspended the education process in the two tehsils. Majority of the girls’ schools were among the destroyed ones, education department sources said.
Thousands of girls and boys belonging to Khyber Agency have been deprived of the basic right of education. In Landikotal tehsil, where the government schools are currently closed, the girls used to sit on the debris of the destroyed schools to read their books under the open sky in the extremely hot weather. This is also worth mentioning that the female teachers in Landikotal also avoided turning up to their duties whereas in Bara all the educational institutes have been closed till further orders due to the ongoing military operation against the militants.
