N. Korean leader wishes Russian president a happy birthday

SEOUL, Sept. 14 (Yonhap) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-il wished Russian President Dmitry Medvedev a happy birthday, the North's official news wire said Sunday, amid recent reports that Kim had collapsed and is recovering from a stroke or cerebral hemorrhage.

In the message, Kim reportedly expressed that he wished for President Medvedev's health and happiness.

President Medvedeve turned 43 on Sunday.

"I hope that you would obtain successful results in the responsible projects for the prosperity of your country," the message said, according to the Korean Central News Agency.

There has been a flurry of speculation since earlier this week surrounding the North Korean leader's health following his absence at the country's 60th founding anniversary military parade in Pyongyang on Tuesday.

Reports have surfaced that Western and Chinese doctors have flown into the communist state.
