U.S. congress to hold urgent briefing on Kim Jong-il: report
SEOUL, Sept. 14 (Yonhap) -- An urgent briefing on the health condition of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il is scheduled to be held at the U.S. congress next week, a report said Sunday.
The Washington-based broadcaster Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported that the U.S. Congress House Committee on Foreign Affairs has made a request to the Department of State to give a briefing on recent developments related to Kim's health.
There has been a flurry of speculation since earlier this week surrounding the North Korean leader's health following his absence at the country's 60th founding anniversary military parade in Pyongyang on Tuesday.
Reports have surfaced that Western and Chinese doctors have flown into the communist state.
"If Kim Jong-il is known to be in a serious condition, the committee will discuss mainly on how the U.S. will respond to the crisis," the report said, quoting an anonymous committee official.
