Last Abhisit Cabinet meeting approves draft royal decree for new House session convention

BANGKOK, July 12 (TNA) - The Cabinet of Thai caretaker prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva approved in principle at its last meeting Tuesday a draft royal decree for the convention of the country’s next House of Representatives session, during which the new Thai government, led by the Puea Thai Party, is expected to be elected.

Abhisit said after the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) has officially endorsed at least 95 per cent of overall MPs elected in the country's July 3 general election, or 475 out of a total of the 500 elected MPs, he will then submit the draft royal decree to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej for an approval in a Royal Command with the opening date of the next House session included.

Abhisit noted that he believes the EC can verify and endorse the status of most of the elected MPs within a 30-day deadline, after the national poll, as stated in the 2007 Constitution.

Regarding complaints about electoral frauds, the outgoing Democrat premier said that the court would handle them, and that he expected the new Thai government would be formed within next month; so, the new administration, led by the Puea Thai Party, would implement its policies right away and the nation would not be in a government vacuum for too long.
