Qatar Celebrates World Population Day
Doha, July 10 (QNA) - The State of Qatar will join tomorrow the world countries in celebrations marking the World Population Day which falls on July 11 each year.
The celebrations marking this event come in implementation of a recommendation issued by the United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) Board of Directors issued in 1989 to call on the international community to celebrate this day to focus attention on the urgency of population issues and their importance in the context of the comprehensive development plans and programmes, and the need to find solutions to these issues.
The United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) is preparing for the launch of a global campaign called 7 Billion Actions to create a more just and sustainable world. World population is estimated to hit seven billion by late October this year, says a UN report. The report suggests a fertility and population growth rate decline in most countries in contrast to least developed countries (LDCs) where the trend is opposite.
The campaign plans to carry out a series of activities and engage people and partners on what it means to live in a world with seven billion people and encourage action on issues that affect all peoples.(QNA)
