Thais observe the Buddhist Lent Season

BANGKOK, July 10 (TNA) - Local people in northern Thailand enthusiastically presented candles and necessities to monks in the lead-up to the Buddhist Lent Season.
At Chai Mongkol temple in central Chiang Mai province, a lot of people showed up Sunday to avoid chaotic on the Buddhist Lent day which would start on July 16. They donated consumer goods, candles, new robes and lamps to monks.
Merit making activities including the release of fishes into the Ping River and buying cows and buffalo to save them from slaughterhouses were also practiced by the people, many of whom were seen wearing simple white dress Sunday.
Similar practices were also performed in Chiang Rai province. Local Buddhists flocked to temples nearby to make donations of candles and necessities for monks so that they could use them during the Buddhist Lent period. (TNA)
