Greens: carbon tax is 'historic'

SYDNEY (AAP) - July 09 - The Australian Greens have declared the carbon tax a historic agreement that delivers for the community, economy and climate.
The government has announced a $23 per tonne price on carbon in Canberra on Sunday.
"This outcome is a tribute to quite remarkable negotiation by the prime minister, (Climate Change) Minister Greg Combet and the government team," Greens leader Bob Brown said in a statement.
The deal includes a major program which the Greens are claiming responsibility for.
The program invests $10 billion in renewable energy, supports energy efficiency and starts planning for a 100 per cent renewable energy future.
"The Greens promised to deliver a climate action package which was a platform for stronger action rather than a ceiling which held Australia back and we have done just that," Greens deputy Christine Milne said.
"Caps will be set according to a budgets approach rather than targets," she said.
