Union wants clean jobs to be local
SYDNEY (AAP) - July 09 - The manufacturing union says it will make sure new clean energy jobs stay in Australia, as the federal government dedicates funds toward expanding the sector.
The government will pump $13 billion into Australia's renewable energy industry as part of its Clean Energy Future plan announced on Sunday.
Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union national secretary Dave Oliver said it was essential the funds were used to create local jobs.
"Our union will be campaigning to ensure that ... we're making it here, and we're not simply going to be importing that technology," he told the Seven Network on Sunday.
"Manufacturing's not dead - there's a million people in this industry."
