Islamabad, July 10, IRNA -- Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Saturday said that paramilitary forces have taken control of the pickets of terrorists positioned in at least two parts of the violence-hit Karachi.

Malik told reporters in Karachi that paramilitary troops have restored normalcy in 'Katti Pahari' area in Orangi Town, the center of trouble, where hundreds of people had been trapped for four days.

'Adjoining areas are also gradually coming under the control of paramilitary force ‘Rangers’ and the Police,' he said, adding that people had left their homes are coming back and they were being provided relief goods by the government functionaries.'

Police sources and media reported that death toll in the ethnic and political violence in Karachi now reached nearly 100.

Malik said that he himself on Saturday visited the affected areas of Orangi Town where situation was improving. Besides Rangers, Police, 250 men of militia force ‘Frontier Constabulary’ have been deployed and more will be deployed in coming days.

He revealed that 87 terrorists have been arrested from the affected areas and further revealed that terrorists are using children and elders as human shield.

'Therefore, we keep on changing our strategy,' he added. Moreover, he said the intelligence sources have also revealed that some terrorists are operating on the directives of those already in jails.

'We are trying to trace their communication system,' he added. He said the President and Prime Minister have given instructions for zero tolerance in action against terrorists to bring peace in Karachi.
