Songkhla'haze not affect aviation services

BANGKOK, July 9 (TNA) - Haze, apparently caused by forest fires in neighbouring Indonesia which has covered several areas in the Thai south since earlier this week, has not affected local aviation services.

In Songkhla Province, updated reports said on Saturday that visibility has been almost back to normal, as the haze has been fading, and flights at Hat-Yai International Airport have not been disrupted but has been operated as usual.

Nevertheless, satellite images from Southern and Eastern Meteorological Centers showed that there have been over 100 fire hotspots in Indonesian’s Sumatra Island and a Southwest monsoon is passing through the Andaman Sea, southern Thai areas and the Gulf of Thailand.

Meanwhile, Thailand's Pollution Control Department reported that in Hat-Yai, the Air Quality Index stood at 71 over the past twenty-four hours, which is within the safety level, and that the Particulate Matter Level was measured at 74 micrograms per cubic meter, lower than the country’s air quality standard for particulate matter, which is set at 120 microgram per cubic meter.
