Haze in Thai South relieves

BANGKOK, July 8 (TNA) - Haze covering several areas in Thai South, including Hat Yai, the country's southern business hub in Songkhla Province, started to clear Friday when sunlight returned following downpours yesterday.

The haze has covered the Thai South, including Satun Province, since July 6, caused by forest fires in neighbouring Indonesia's Sumatra Island.

Songkhla Governor Winyu Thongsakul has told concerned authorities to keep following up air quality in the province and inform him immediately of any worse situation; so he will issue warnings to the public timely. The governor assessed that the ongoing southwest monsoon could bring more haze to the Thai South.

Health officials in the southernmost Narathiwat Province have also warned local people to stay indoors, particularly those suffering from lung diseases, emphysema and asthma, or to wear face masks or close their noses with wet towels to screen out particulate matters for the sake of their good health if they need to go outdoors.

Meanwhile, flooding has continued to trouble people and damage over 16 square kilometers of paddy fields in two districts of Thailand's northern Pitsanulok Province, as rescue workers are delivering food and necessities to flood victims to relieve their hardships. (TNA)
