Yemen urges easing restrictions on developing countries exported
GENEVA, sep 12 (Saba) - On the margins of the Annual session of the
Parliamentary Conference on the WTO (Geneva) held on 11-12
September, deputy Parliament speaker Akram Abdullah Attiyah urged
developed countries to ease stiff restrictions imposed on
developing countries export products and that there should be fair
trade exchange.
He brought up the issue of Yemen's accession to the World Trade
Organization WTO and hopes it receives international support to
join the organization.
He affirmed the Yemeni parliament backs the idea of parliament
involvement in the WTO negotiations.
The Yemeni delegation during the conference presented two proposals
demanding speeding of including developing counties in the terms of
the conference and creating a special term in the conference final
statement supporting the accession of developing countries to the
WTO.
The conference discussed during days the fate of the WTO
negotiations after the Doha round as well as activating the
parliaments role in these negotiations.
It also addressed the role of the WTO in alleviating poverty and
facing soaring food prices worldwide as well as the effects of
global trade on heat emissions and bringing solutions to climate
