Qatar Olympic Committee Congratulates South Korea

Durban, July 07 (QNA) - The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has congratulated the Korean Olympic committee (KOC) for winning the rights to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) selected PyeongChang (Republic of Korea) as the host city of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in 2018 during its 123rd Session in Durban, South Africa on Wednesday.
PyeongChang won in the first round of voting with 63 votes, against Munich (25 votes) and Annecy (7 votes).
QOC Secretary General Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani lauded the voting process and stressed that all bids were excellent and equal.
He expressed his confidence in the ability of Pyeongchang to organize a successful and wonderful Winter Games because of its unique sports facilities.
The Winter Olympic Games are a multi-sport event held every four years. The first celebration of the Winter Olympics was held in Chamonix, France, in 1924 with participation of 16 countries.
The last edition was held in Vancouver, Canada while Sochi will be the first Russian city to host the Winter Olympics in 2014. (QNA)
