Statement: More than half a million of Diyala people demand the UN protect Camp Ashraf

Baghdad (NINA) - More than half a million people of Diyala province demanded the UN to take over protection of Camp Ashraf, which holds members of the Iranian opposition Mujahidin Khalq Organization.

A statement issued by the National Tribal Council in Diyala at the conclusion of its conference, a copy of which received by NINA, warned the Iraqi government from "getting further involved in the bloodshed of the Mujahidin Khalq, "calling on the armed forces to desist directing their weapons against the organization.”

The statement called on all patriotic and independent parties, MPs, and religious leaders to protest against what it called the April 8 crime, and to prevent the government from committing what it described as more crimes against the Camp Ashraf in order to gain the support of the Iranian regime.

The statement stressed that "the Iraqi government's decision to taking them out of Iraq, is a violation of international laws and conventions, it was adopted at the request of the Iranian regime to eliminate the Ashraf Camp people.”

The council said that 525.000 of the people of Diyala who are over the age of 18 years signed the statement. /End/
