Academics hope new Thai govnt move quickly to restore relations with neighboring countries
BANGKOK, July 7 (TNA) - The National Economic and Social Development Board or NESDB believes that the new government of Thailand under the leadership of the Pheu Thai Party can restore relations with neighboring countries, which would facilitate ASEAN’s plan to establish ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.
NESDB member Narongchai Akaraseranee said at a seminar on the preparations for investment in the AEC Thursday morning that the successful election in Thailand had relieved concerns of many ASEAN member countries about political situation in Thailand. He said he believed the new Puea Thai Party-led coalition administration could restore relations with neighboring countries; particularly with Cambodia after the two countries relationships had been deteriorated over the past two years.
Narongchai hoped that the restoration of Thai-Cambodian relations would ensure smooth establishment of the AEC in 2015 and relieve the concern of Indonesia in its capacity as the ASEAN chair. (TNA)
