Int'l observers praise Thailand's orderly election
BANGKOK, July 7 (TNA) - International observers have praised the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) for its successful organising of the country's orderly general election on July 3.
EC Secretary General Suthipol thaweechaikarn told reporters Thursday that the international observers representing 11 countries, two international organisations and foreign embassies in Thailand have publicized the orderly Thai general election with no political interferrence.
Suthipol acknowledged that the international observers have also said they were considerably impressed by a historic high voters' turnout, at some 75.03 per cent, in Thailand's July 3 national poll.
According to the EC secretary general, the Thai election agency is proud of the compliments voiced by the experienced foreign observers, proving the Thai EC's efficiency and internationally-recognised standard in organising the national poll.
Earlier, the Thai election agency invited representatives from Australia, Bhutan, Malaysia, India, Nepal, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Korea, Maldives, Switzerland and Japan, as well as the Association of Asian Election Authorities or AAEA, the Germany-based Friedrich Naumann Foundation and many foreign embassies in Bangkok to observe the country's July 3 general election.
